A Note from Cross Point Desk
Cross Point Editor
Dear Cross Point Readers,
Happy New Year 2008!
We are proud to present the January 2008 edition:
Happy 3rd Anniversary to the Cross Point Publication! Cross Point published its first edition in January 2005. Back then, FICA-CSS realized the importance of providing an avenue to disseminate our thoughts, reflections, and researches with the purpose of providing the Christian worldview to the Public Sphere. It is always our hope to influence and empower the public to engage in the culture specifically in Indonesia context. We would like to thank God for His guidance so far. We would like to thank our fellow writers who have spent precious hours putting their thoughts and ideas into pieces of good writings. We also would like to thank our readers for their continuous support.
On its 3rd anniversary, Cross Point will start the first sequent of “Perspective: On Human Rights” series. On the subsequent editions, there will be “Perspective: On Work Ethics” series and many more will follow. The purpose of Perspective Series is to provide FICA’s views on fundamental issues such as human rights, work ethics, etc. In this edition, Kie Eng Go starts with “Created in His Image (part 1)” of the “Perspective: On Human Rights” series.
Our friend Elis Markova wrote a reflection journal on “Down Syndrome: an “abnormal” pity or blessing?” It is saddening to see that people with Down syndrome have been underrepresented in many developing countries, especially Indonesia. Our hope is that her writing will touch our readers and open another awareness of injustice happening in our country. Our friend Jane Wardhana wrote a book review on “Leading from the Front: No Excuse Leadership Tactics For Women”; may our readers be benefited from Jane’s review.
Keny Widjaja and Yahya Cahyadi conducted an interview with one of OMC-XIV speakers: Mr. Josef Nae Soi, who is a member of the People’s Representative Council, where he serves in its Commission V, which oversees developments and issues in the fields of transportation, telecommunications, civil works, civil housing, and underdeveloped regional development. Finally, Aditya Nugroho wrote on “US Alumni: So What?” based on his personal experience as a US alumni. Eden Steven wrote on “Avoiding Prejudice that Leads to Discrimination and Ignorance”. Adison Wongkar wrote on “Examining Shariah Banking Trend in Indonesia”.
We would like to invite our readers to share your ideas through your writings; please let us know if you are interested. If there are any thoughts on how to improve Cross Point Publication, please do not hesitate to contact us at crosspoint <at> fica <dot> org.
